Introduction:

This was one of the best features of the program given by Guibal when he played at the Eden Musée many years ago. It was not new even at that time; in fact, I had made it a part of my own show in my amateur days; but it is extremely effective if properly handled, and it has always been a surprise to me that it has not come into more general use.

Guibal probably learned the trick from Verbeck, for whom he acted as interpreter during the tour of the latter in England. His clever patter is said to have greatly benefited the Verbeck performance, but later there was a disagreement, and Guibal started for himself, giving practically the same program.

Call someone on the phone. Ask him to take out five of his business cards. He is to turn them blank side up and place them in a horizontal row. He is then asked to draw a sketch of a bullet on any one of the cards. Allow him to exchange the bullet card with any other card in the row. He has a completely free choice.

"We have started out by giving you a completely free selection as to which position the bullet card is in. Only you, and you alone know how far from the left side of the row the bullet card is. This is your lucky number and you are to remember it."

The Effect:
A spectator gives you a random number and you're instantly able to create a magic square of numbers in which all rows, columns, diagonals and corners total his chosen number.

The Secrets:
This looks absolutely mind blowing when performed well but is technically easy to achieve.

The Effect:
A male volunteer places his wallet, watch and a coin on the table. Turning your back, you invite him to place each of those objects into his front left and right and one of his back trouser pockets.

Turn around and explain that through subtle use of body language, you can determine which object was placed in which pocket. After looking him up and down for a while, you correctly name the location of each object,

This is an amazing trick that is guaranteed to get reactions like no other. This version is designed so anyone can do it. No sleight of hand at all, just simple, pure effect. You make a selected card completely vanish from the deck and appear wherever you want it to.

This trick requires you to make up a simple gimmick using two ordinary playing cards. Tape any two cards together as shown in Photo 3.1. NOTE: The front card is cut a little short. The back card (8 of spades) is the card to be forced.

The Effect:

A string or rope is cut into two pieces, and then magically restored into one piece!

The Requirements:

1. One piece of heavy string or thin rope.
2. A piece of writing paper.
3. A pair of good scissors.

Effect:

A piece of string is cut in half - two of the ends are crossed over one another and a borrowed ring is placed over the crossed ends. - The crossed ends with the ring are given to a spectator to hold in their clenched fist and when you (the magician) pull on the other ends of the string, it magically melts into one single piece of string again, - with the ring securely threaded on to it.
