Richard Dawkins Interview With Derren Brown
(6 votes)

Is it rational that the dead can communicate with the living and give sound advice on how they should live their lives? Or the bending of spoons using your mind alone? Is that rational? Richard Dawkins doesn’t think so, and feels it is his duty to expose those areas of belief that exist without scientific proof, yet manage to hold the nation under their spell. He will take on the world’s leading proponents in their field of expertise, meet the victims who have used them and expose the history of the movements – from the charlatans who have milked these practices to the experiments and testing that have failed to produce conclusive results.

The documentary was first broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK, styled as a loose successor to Dawkins' documentary of the previous year, The Root of All Evil?

This footage is the interview with UK mentalist and illusionist Derren Brown.

How Playing Cards Are Made
(2 votes)
Playing cards can be made with paper or plastics. To make a card, layered paper is used. Layered paper is produced by putting a number of sheets of paper in a stack and gluing them together. This type of paper is stronger and more durable than standard paper.

Higher quality cards may be made from polymeric plastic films and sheets. One material that is often used is a cellulose acetate polymer. This is a semisynthetic polymer that is made into a paper-like sheet by being cast from a solution. This produces a film, which can be stacked and laminated to produce an appropriately thick sheet. This material is much more durable than paper and cards that are made with it last considerably longer.

Vinyl plastics are also used in the production of cards. Paper cards are typically of lower quality and wear out more quickly than plastic cards.

(1 vote)
Tarot, numerology and divination the traditional methods for tapping into the supernatural are as popular as ever, and often just as suspect. Secrets of the Occult explores the world of the occult from the ancient and modern magicians who practice it to the cutting edge scientists attempting to explain its mysterious claims.

In Secrets of the Occult contemporary occult practitioners are joined by leading scientific and medical experts to examine the big questions of occultism: Can the mind alter reality? Can disease be cured by mind focusing techniques? Is receiving messages from the dead possible?

This documentary highlights the advances made by innovators like Newton, Galileo, Carl Jung and Einstein who all challenged established reality. It also examines the origins of occult magic from the ancient Egyptians and Greeks to mediums centuries later such as Madame Blavatsky and Aleister Crowley who synthesized eastern and western mysticism into a new science.
